Why this works

Three reasons learners actually pass.

Practice questions, not theory videos. The platform is built around what works in the published research on retrieval practice — and what works in front of the examiner.

02 / 03

Track Progress

Visual dashboards show your strengths and areas for development across every topic.

The evidence

Active recall isn't a marketing line — it's the literature.

Decades of cognitive-science research find that retrieval practice — answering questions you might get wrong — produces more durable learning than re-reading or highlighting. We didn't invent this. We built a question bank disciplined enough to use it.

What does Go Music Theory cover?
Go Music Theory covers ABRSM Music Theory Grades 1 to 5. These are the online, multiple-choice format exams. Questions are organised by grade and topic, covering note values, time signatures, pitch, keys and scales, intervals, chords, transposition, instruments, and musical terms.
Do I need Grade 5 Theory for my practical exam?
Yes. ABRSM requires a pass at Grade 5 Music Theory (or an approved alternative) before you can enter for Practical Grades 6, 7 or 8. This makes Grade 5 Theory the most important grade for many instrumental and vocal students. Go Music Theory has comprehensive Grade 5 coverage to help you pass with confidence.
Is there a free tier?
Yes — all Grade 1 practice questions are completely free with no credit card required. Grade 1 covers note values and rests, time signatures and rhythm, pitch and notation, keys and scales, and terms and signs. To access Grades 2 to 5, a subscription costs just £7.99 per month.
Do the questions include explanations?
Every question on Go Music Theory includes a detailed explanation covering why the correct answer is right and why the other options are wrong. This helps you learn the underlying theory rather than just memorising answers, which is essential for passing your ABRSM exam.
How do I know when I am ready for the exam?
Your progress dashboard shows mastery percentages for every topic within each grade. When you are consistently scoring above 70% across all topics in a grade, you are in a strong position to pass. The ABRSM pass mark is 50 out of 75, so solid practice across all topics gives you a comfortable margin.
